The proposed new road linking the former Raf site to the B1150 shown on the bidders' map of transportation routes as a red dotted line has been transferred by residents worried about their properties onto an enlarged map of the area. Not only does the road 'wipe out' several properties in Great Hautbois but it also cuts across Buxton Road through the middle of marsh land valuable to wild life and then across a site of Historical significamce to English Heritage as one of the best examples of a Roman Marching Camp either side of  Frettenham Road Horstead. Digging below a certain level is forbidden on this site according to English Heritage own stipulations. Digging for a road would be, we are reliably informed by an English Heritage official, completely unacceptable. Pictures of  some of the areas mentioned here can be seen on galery as can video footage lower down the page of the marshland through which the proposed road is routed on the map from the bidder. Info from residents of Coltishall and Horstead.

Route of new road  cuts through marshland at Horstead and video from Jo Ford shows the natural marshland wildlife. Do take a look......

A Hautbois resident, Christina Lee, sent in some information on the Bitterne Line-the railway linking Norwich to Sheringham which the R Davies Consortium suggest should be used as part of the new rail link from the site

A selection from the  list of  interesting comments from our survey of  local parishioners -

Go back to farmland. The land should be given back to the land owner that was forced to sell it!!

Return to farming

A mixture of houses, light industry 'eco friendly', redreation areas, sports stadium, more farm land

Part turned into a sports and leisure complex with the remainder returned to agriculture

Research/office centre or preferably taken over by the military again for administrative purposes

I would prefer it to revert to the armed forces

With the forecast of food shortages in the future this land could be returned to agriculture with footpaths and facilities for recreation ie a village centre to serve all surrounding villages

A nature reserve such as Pensthorpe please

Think Eden project-somewhere where people can escape to, not try and escape from. A green oasis which concentrates on preservation NOT desecration.
Offenders in the prison can work in the gardens and glass houses and help create an eco-KEW-gardens in the heart of Broadland and Nth Norfolk

Wildlife conservation area. Lake for water sports. 9-hole golf course and log cabins for tourists

Return the land to food production- we need it. Industrial units that actually produce iems for sale. Aircraft repair and servicing centre and storage/distribution depot by aeroplane using existing runway

Industries, production businesses, and some put back into much needed farm land when you think of the world food shortages

Return to farmland, the media keep telling us of food shortages so here is an ideal chance to grow more

Farming-crops for fuel and benefit to the present population which is bound to increase anyway. Also it would spoil Nth Walsham and other small businesses in the neighbourhood

Sporting centre of excellence for all sports

Yes a unique area for wildlife/eco projects/conservation-we are obssessed with our onslaught to build and now must think of what legacy they leave behind. Don't blight what little we have

Return land not built on (a large proportion of the whole site) to farming

MADNESS-should be returned to agriculture or industry

The land could be returned to farming with the shortage of food forecast for the future. This could be introduced with footpaths, and planted hedgerows, also with an Educational centre for the children from the surrounding villages

Return land to the former owners to make use of the land again. ....

Return to agricultural use, make use of sports facilities, small scale housing development...

Return to agricultural use in view of food shortages. .....Even an oil refinery or Nuclear waste dump would cause less impact.........from a Coltishall parishioner.....

Use it for sports facilities, training ground, anything similar that encourages our young people to participate thus lead healthier lives. It would relieve their boredom and get them away from the TV etc

Good to hear about the possibility of Davis pulling out and the distribution of the posters distribution.

I have been in contact with Anglia Waters planning officer  who has confirmed that they have a statutary duty to provide water for what ever development but it would not be without its problems. However the biggest difficulty they would have would be the ability to deal with the sewerage they simply to not have the capacity within the existing system and in short they would have to built a new treatment works and it looks like the developer would have to pay or at least contribute a considerable proportion of the cost.

Colin Prentice, Coltishall

Dear Mr Simpson,

Attached is an article which you have probably already see - EDP - on
the Ecotown proposals.

For all of the well known reasons, I am very much against the Eco Town
in any size. Surely, a good Norfolk-friendly use can be found for theRAF Coltishall.
It makes far more sense to provide housing in built-up areas with
infrastructure and to renovate already existing houses
than to disrupt the countryside of a rural county. What will happen in
the future if this type of thinking is permitted to take hold now?
I have signed the petition online.
 Yours Sincerely

Christina Lee
